In 1999, a group of women recognized the tremendous need to educate the public about the prevalence and seriousness of domestic violence as well as the desperate need for funds to support direct service providers. Consequently, Walk to End Domestic Violence was born.
Expecting a field of a few hundred, the first Event was an overwhelming success - with participation exceeding 3,000! Since then, the Walk has continued to grow, both by the number of participants and more importantly, by the funds raised from individual and corporate sponsors. In the wake of the terrorist attack of September 11th, the Third Annual Event was cancelled.
For our Fourth Annual Event, the participating organizations decided to include a run. As many have experienced, running has the capacity to improve one's emotional and physical well-being. Every run becomes a celebration of life, of possibilities, of another challenge conquered. It is this spirit that we seek to embrace.
